In the midst of rising white Christian nationalism, let’s take a moment to pay attention to one of the core lessons of the Christmas (and Christian) narrative. Namely, that when searching for signs of the holy, one is better off looking not to places of power, but rather to the most vulnerable among us. The immigrant, the stranger, the poor, the outcast, the rejected … these are the ones in the center of the Christmas story … and might that also be the case now?
