Charity with Soul Ballot for 2021 – 2022

Please check off/vote for five (5)* organizations to become UUCB Charities with Soul for 2021 – 2022. The new year of charities begins July 1, 2021. Please return your ballot to the church office by Thursday, May 13 by mail or send your vote to Lynn (Scan in your ballot if you can) at .

o Abyssinian Meeting House (The Committee to Restore) – Works to restore, interpret and maintain the historical meetinghouse and preserve and promote the cultural heritage of African Americans in Maine.

o Brunswick/Topsham Land Trust – To conserve, protect, and steward the cherished landscapes and rich natural resources of our communities; to connect people to nature by providing recreational opportunities and to support local agriculture and fisheries.

o Brunswick Area Teen Center – Provides activities, snacks and support in a safe place for kids in grades 6 to 12 where they can meet friends for fun doing after school and summer activities.

o Chans HomeHealth & Hospice – Provides full-service skilled home health, hospice, private duty care services, and an array of community-based wellness clinics and support services in Midcoast Maine.

o (The) Emergency Action Network (TEAN) – Supports children and families in the Brunswick community by identifying those who are struggling to meet their most basic needs. The goal is to identify those needs and harness resources to support them.

o Friends of Merrymeeting Bay – Works to preserve, protect, and improve the unique ecosystem of Merrymeeting Bay.

o ILAP (Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project) – Volunteer lawyers and others help low-income immigrants improve their legal status and works for more just and humane laws and policies affecting immigrants throughout Maine.

o Maine Healthcare Action – MHCA promotes and actively advocates establishment of publicly funded healthcare coverage for all Maine residents. The current goal is to pass a Resolve to persuade the Maine Legislature to pass a law that accomplishes this goal.

 o Maine Family Planning – Since the founding in 1971, Maine Family Planning has worked to ensure all Maine people have access to high-quality, affordable reproductive health care, comprehensive sexual health education and the right to control their reproductive lives.

o Maine – Wabanaki REACH (Restoration, Engagement, Advocacy, Change Healing) – Advances Wabanaki self-determination by strengthening the cultural, spiritual and physical well-being of Native people in Maine.

o Midcoast Humane – One of the biggest shelters in the state of Maine, operating animal sheltering facilities in Brunswick and Edgecomb, providing care and second chances to almost 4,000 animals every year, and assist thousands more through their programming.

o Midcoast Literacy – Programs provide free, individualized tutoring for adults and school-age children, family literacy sessions for pre-school and pre-K families, and free children’s books for low-income families.

o Natural Resources Council of Maine – Works to protect, restore, and conserve Maine’s environment, now and for future generations.

o People Plus Senior Center – Supports an engaged, healthy, and independent life for older adults, while joining others to build community for all ages, offering numerous choices for fitness and wellness services, recreation and learning opportunities, education and outreach.

o Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) – Promotes racial justice and voting rights, combats hate groups and teaches tolerance.
