Music is an important part of the life and worship of UUCB. Our program draws on the talents of musicians within our church and the wider community. Music is an integral part of every Sunday service – from congregational singing to special music provided by the choir or other vocal and instrumental individuals and groups within our community. Music also plays an important role in the Religious Education program for our children.
In addition to worship services, UUCB members and friends participate in and enjoy musical events such as evening concerts and musical social gatherings.
The UUCB recorder ensemble rehearses every Sunday following service, typically in the May Sarton Room. We learn and work on a variety of music from traditional four-part hymn tunes to Beatles arrangements. This is both a good activity for those wanting to work on reading skills as well as those working on playing a wind instrument more successfully and gaining confidence within a small group. We will play on worship services on an as needed basis.
The UUCB choir sings in church services on Sundays as well as special services, such as Christmas Eve. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 in the Sanctuary.
Membership in the choir is open to all. To indicate an interest in joining, contact our Director of Music, Will Bristol. Email:
One of the delights of the season, occurring the Sunday before Christmas, is the one rehearsal, once-a-year performance of the Intergenerational All-Church Orchestra, made up of anyone in the church family who enjoys playing an instrument. Although the musical selections are relatively easy, most youngsters require 6 – 12 months of instruction on their instrument before feeling comfortable participating.
Small informal vocal groups are often invited to perform during services. The many talented musicians in our church frequently offer programs or concerts on special occasions or after church.
